The Surface MUST Be Clean.
I use dishwashing liquid to remove
dirt and grime off
Painted Surfaces, and Window Cleaner for Glass Surfaces.
Rinse thoroughly and dry.
|
|
Do Not apply decals in Direct Sunlight
as surfaces can get very hot.
|
|
Surface should be cool
to the touch.
|
|
For best results, the air temperature
should be above 40 degrees F.
|
|
Once your decal is in place,
wait
30 minutes before peeling off the
transfer tape. An hour is better.
|
|
Materials needed:
window cleaner, Rubbing alcohol,
masking tape, exacto knife or razor
blade, and a squeegee or credit card. |
Preparing your decal: Place
your decal on a hard, flat surface,
with the transparent Transfer Tape facing upward.
Using either a squeegee or credit card, rub over the
entire area of the decal. This will help ensure that
the
decal will stick to the Transfer Tape when it is lifted.
For smaller decals, you should be able
to lift the Transfer Tape
and the decal should lift with it. If you get to a
point where a part
of the decal does not lift (stays stuck to the backing), use
the exacto
knife to help lift it off the backing.
Once you have your decal in place on the
mounting surface,
use the squeegee or credit card and rub over the entire surface
of the decal using firm pressure. This is important.
The Transfer Tape will pretect your surface, so don't
be afraid to rub firmly.
Let the decal set 30 minutes to an hour
before pulling off
the Transfer Tape. This will give the glue time to
set.
After the waiting period, soak the Transfer Tape with
water using a spray bottle or garden hose. This will
make the Transfer Tape easier to peel off.
For large decals, use one of the Hinge
Methods listed below.

Your decals are mounted on
a special glossy paper.

A layer of transfer tape is
then applied.

Here are some
installation tips from the company
that supplies my vinyl materials:
SURFACE PREPARATION
All surfaces should be considered
dirty and should be
cleaned prior to application of vinyl lettering or graphics.
Clean the area where the vinyl
will be applied.
Rubbing alcohol is preferable.
Then, rinse area thoroughly and dry.
TEMPERATURE
REQUIREMENTS
Air and application surface should
be above 40 degrees F.
Best conditions are between 60 80 degrees F.
APPLICATION
Center Hinge
Method:
1) Position lettering or graphic
on clean surface. Tack to desired
location with small pieces of masking tape on either end.
2) Run another piece of masking
tape vertically through the
center of the lettering or graphic, making sure it adheres firmly
above and below the lettering as well. Vertical tape will act
as
a center hinge.
3) Remove one small piece of
masking tape from either end.
4) Lift graphic or lettering
from that end and pull release liner
away. Continue to pull liner away until close to vertical
center hinge.
5) Cut release liner with scissors
and discard.
6) Starting from center vertical
hinge, squeegee lettering
down onto prepared surface.
7) Remove small piece of masking
tape on other end as well
as vertical tape used as center hinge. Lay remaining half
over applied lettering.
8) Remove the rest of the release
liner and again, beginning
from center, squeegee into place.
9) Remove application tape.
Horizontal Hinge
Method:
1) Position lettering or graphic
on clean surface. Tack to desired
location with small pieces of masking tape on either end.
2) Apply a long piece of masking
tape across the top of the
lettering or graphic.
3) Remove small pieces of masking
tape at both ends.
4) Cut lettering or graphic into
small areas vertically.
With letters, cut between the letters. With graphic, cut
between sections taking care not to cut through any vinyl.
5) Starting at the right (if
right-handed), flip one section over
at a time and remove release liner.
6) Squeegee each section into
place with smooth downward strokes.
7) Re-squeegee entire line of
lettering or graphic when complete.
8) Remove application tape.
